Their idol was Dagon who we know as Poseidon. The volcanic eruption of Thera had NOTHING to do with the demise of Atlantis. Plato called an earthquake, not a volcanic eruption. The earthquake Plato mentioned was a nitrate bomb, a whopper we read about in Revelation 16:18. What Oliver Smith means is that Crete was a “type” of Atlantis and after the Exodus story where Pharaoh’s army disappeared into the waves – Exodus 15 – was another step in the evolution of the Atlantis model. Just as the fall of Tire in Ezekiel 27-28 was a type of Atlantis.
