Researchers and scientists as modern pharisees
Atlantis research had until now a one dimensional approach. Researchers did their research only in an archeological way in an attempt to find a lump of ruins somewhere on the sea bottom. Every small discovery on the sea bottom had led to the same researchers reflex: “could be Atlantis”. But if researchers claimed that Atlantis was a lost civilization; what about the culture of Atlantis? Who were the Rolling Stones of Atlantis? What about the social-economical dimensions of Atlantis? What money did they use? Why did they have elephants and not hippo’s on Atlantis? What was the social status of their women? What was their religion? How often did they go to church. Ah… the weird thing is that we did get some glimpses of the Atlantis religion since Athena and Poseidon were the key actors in the story. But no one paid attention to them. Who were they?
Who were the kings of Atlantis anyway? Were they humans at all? It seems that researchers had skipped this main important question. For that reason I tend to believe that all Atlantis research needs a “reset”. That the Atlantis story is a theological rather than an archeological issue, is seemingly unacceptable for researchers. They share the same reflex as the pharisees in the New Testament shared when Jesus and Paul brought the gospel to prostitutes and pagans. As the pharisees considered the Tenach as THEIR ultimate dominion, the modern researchers consider Atlantis as THEIR issue. Radical other views on Atlantis were simply not allowed to cross their path, let alone if these radical other views had to do with theology.
It is time for a reset. And for a radical other paradigm.
Update, 9 october 2018
All researchers had concluded so far that Atlantis was at least a literal island. But many different topographical options had been proposed by different researchers. This is a strange thing. If researchers used objective methods to discover Atlantis, we would at least find a common ground and a thread in their conclusions. But there was no common ground in their conclusions. All the different islands that had been claimed to be Atlantis till so far had no relation to each other. For example, the enemies of Israel lived in different places that were mostly related to each other. The Philistines of Crete colonized Gaza while their god Dagon (Poseidon) joined the Canaanite gods. Crete, Gaza, Tyrus, Babylon and Edom were entangled with each other. Dagon became the father of Baal. Atlantis research had been a search for a literal island till so far. No other questions were proposed. Was Plato’s Atlantis maybe an artificial island? Was it a figurative island? Since it existed on the horizon in the west, was it an island within a landmass, was it an underworldly island? In Sura 53:7 we read about this horizon. All researchers claimed beforehand that Atlantis was a literal physical island that had existed somewhere in some ocean. For that reason we can question if their research methods were really that objective as they should have been.
