According to the christian tradition Sheba was Yemen or even Ethiopia. Then I ask why Yemen should be Sheba and why not Qatar, Bahrain or whatever is down there? In islam there seems to be a tradtion with Yemenite elephants, so maybe the idea that Sheba had to do with Yemen had to do with a gnostic source. In 1 Kings 10:15 the kings of Arabia were mentioned. Maybe some christians had therefore invented the idea that this Queen had come all the way across Arabia to Jerusalem. In 2 Chronicles 9:1 we read that she came with camels. So was there a navigable way from Yemen all through Saudi-Arabia up to Jerusalem? I am not sure but this queen would have chosen to travel by ship crossing the Red Sea instead of traveling all the way on a camel. If the Queen of Sheba really traveled by camel this simply means that Sheba was much closer to Jerusalem.
